History
Windows S8 and S9
Description:
Arched shaped double lancet window with 5 cusped rose-shaped traceries.
Restoration 2013:
The lead within all windows had deteriorated due to age, and the lead came had
thinned and was breaking away. The lead had deteriorated to a level that it
has reached its life expectancy. Many of the solder joints were broken and
the panels loose to touch. There was also dirt trapped between the leaded
glass and outer protection. In fact it really was only the outer secondary
glazing that was holding them in place. The metal bars were severely rusted
and were causing further damage to the stone mullions.
The windows required to be removed for full restoration and also to allow essential
stone repairs. These central mullions had visibly deteriorated and also
there was a horizontal metal bar fitted within the stonework causing further
damage.
The rose shaped tracery within these windows
were badly bulged due to the
metal framework. This circular frame had rusted and expanded. This expansion
had placed pressure of the leaded glass, causing it to bulge.
All leaded glass was removed for full conservation (re-lead) by Rainbow Glass, and re-installed with new non-ferrous brass bar.
