Windows N3, N4, and N5

Description:N3 N4 N5

Arched shaped double lancet window with diamond top shaped tracery.
These windows are glazed in simple leaded glass, which are made using cut glass, lead and solder. They are in a square pattern with a clear border following the contours of the stonework. The internal glass is made up of glass in various pale tints.

Renovation 2013:

To maintain the integrity of the building, the original leaded glass is to be restored and retained. The lead within all windows has deteriorated due to age. The lead came has thinned and is breaking away. The lead has deteriorated to a level that it has reached its life expectancy. Many of the solder joints are broken and the panels are loose to touch. There is also dirt trapped between the leaded glass and outer protection. In fact it really is only the outer secondary glazing that is holding them in place. The metal bars have severely rusted and are causing further damage to the stone mullions.
The windows require removal for full restoration and also to allow essential stone repairs. These central mullions have visibly deteriorated and also there is a horizontal metal bar fitted within the stonework causing further damage.

The existing protection system is unventilated which creates the wrong environment for the future preservation of the leaded glass, and a new ventilated protection system will be installed.
